Police car-Sept2013-03A 20-year-old denies two charges of stabbing men aged 20 and 21 in a group confrontation in Merivale last month, and is taking the case to a jury trial.

Kyle Kenryo Barraclough pleaded not guilty to two charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and one charge of possession of an offensive weapon, at an appearance in the Christchurch District Court.

Judge Jane McMcMeeken remanded him on bail to a case review hearing on February 24, and allowed deletion of his bail curfew.

Police allege the incident happened about 1am on Friday June 15 during a confrontation between two groups at the Papanui Road-Leinster Road intersection.

When police arrived, they found two men with serious stab wounds to the upper body. The 21-year-old had been stabbed multiple times. They were taken to hospital in a serious condition but police said their injuries were not life threatening.
