Police logo-05Christchurch Police are warning motorists to be vigilant when parking vehicles on public roads surrounding Christchurch International Airport.

Eleven vehicles have been stolen from streets near Christchurch Airport since the start of August including four from the Toyota storage yard on Logistics Drive.

New Zealand Police’s Sergeant Brian Kench, based at the airport, urges people to take precautions such as locking their vehicles, taking valuables with them and consider other options before parking in non-secured areas for extended periods of time.

Nissan and Toyota vehicles accounted for 9 of the 11 vehicles stolen with a high percentage parked by owners who had left the city for extended periods of time; one had been left in the area for over a month.

Police patrols on roads around the Airport have been increased and proactive policing has resulted in an arrest last week for 3 theft ex vehicles.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Christchurch police on (03) 363 7400.

Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
