Court House-Sept-2013-06An arrest while already on electronically monitored bail has led to a remand in custody after a fresh bail hearing in the Christchurch District Court today.

Stephen Wallace Smith, 31, was released on electronically monitored bail on November 20 on remand for charges of possession of the class A drug methamphetamine for supply, and unlawful possession of a pistol and a rifle.

He was to live at his mother’s address in Yaldhurst, but a further police raid at that address on December 9 saw him rearrested on a charge of possession of methamphetamine for supply.

After a week in custody, Smith appeared in the Christchurch District Court by video-link from the prison today, for defence counsel Kirsty Gray to make a new application for his release on electronically monitored bail.

Judge Noel Walsh heard the submissions and the police opposition before deciding that bail would be refused and remanded Smith in custody, without plea, to December 22.
