Speeding stop led to arrest on drugs, firearm charges

APolice car-Sept2013-02 Christchurch father-of-two has been refused bail after allegedly being found with drugs and a pistol in a police speeding stop early on Tuesday morning.

Jamie Rangi Heron, a 27-year-old part time painter and decorator from Redwood, was remanded in custody after a bail hearing before Judge Alistair Garland in the Christchurch District Court today.

He is next due to appear by video-link from the Christchurch Men’s Prison on March 26.

Defence counsel Kirsten Gray presented Heron’s case for release on bail, which was opposed by police prosecutor Sergeant Steve Midgley.

Heron was stopped for speeding and then police found he had two outstanding warrants against him, and searched the car.

The charges allege they found the class A drug methamphetamine, cannabis, and a .22 calibre revolver and ammunition. Heron also faces a charge of burglary.

He has entered no pleas.
