Man charged over home invasion allegation

Court House-entranceA 24-year-old Woolston gib stopper was charged with assaulting a woman, causing grievous bodily harm to a male, and aggravated burglary over an alleged home invasion incident on Tuesday.

Police allege Mikaira Douglas Morgan was armed with a hammer and knuckle duster when he entered a building in Wimborne Crescent, Aranui, with intent to commit a crime on April 14.

On the same day Morgan has been charged with assaulting a woman, and causing grievous bodily harm to a man.

Canterbury police say there were three offenders at the address who left with a small amount of cash and a cellphone after the alleged home invasion.

The 22-year-old victim was taken to Christchurch Hospital with a suspected broken leg.

Judge Stephen O’Driscoll remanded Morgan in custody to appear again at the Christchurch District Court by video link from the prison on April 20 when an application for his release on bail may be made.
