City Centre sign-01A 30-year-old Avonside man was granted interim name suppression when he was remanded in custody on a charge of sexually violating a sex worker in Christchurch last Sunday night.

The man entered no plea when he appeared before Judge Christopher Somerville in the Christchurch District Court today.

Police opposed bail on the charge of sexually violating the sex worker by unlawful sexual connection.

Defence counsel Richard McGuire applied for the man’s release on bail but Judge Somerville decided he should remain in custody until his next court appearance on June 11.

At the request of defence counsel, he granted the suppression order.
