Abuse trial jury to continue deliberations on Tuesday

Court House-general2The jury will continue its deliberations tomorrow in the trial of a woman charged with violent abuse of two boys and an elderly man.

The 60-year-old woman denies 29 charges of assault, assault using household items as weapons, and poisoning – making one of the boys eat chilli pepper.

Christchurch District Court Judge Alistair Garland delivered his summing up to the jury on Monday, the ninth day of the trial, and the jury retired to consider its verdicts about 1pm.

The jury was still deliberating at 5pm, so the judge sent them away overnight and they will return to the Court House to continue their deliberations at 9am on Tuesday.
