Investigation into baby’s death

Police car-Sept2013-02Canterbury Police are investigating the death of a 15-month-old baby.

Emergency Services were called to a residential property in Truman Road, Christchurch just after 10.30pm on Friday.

They found an unconscious 15 month old baby with unexplained injuries.

The baby was transported to the Accident and Emergency Department at Christchurch Hospital and died shortly after arriving.

The forensic scene examination of the residential property continues and is expected to take three to four days to complete.

Police have spoken to the two adult occupants living at the address and are awaiting the results of the post mortem examination which is being carried out on Sunday afternoon in order to establish the full extent of the injuries and an indication how the injuries occurred.

Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Ford said: “The dedicated investigative team will continue to work tirelessly to ascertain how the baby was injured.”
