Police have arrested a 16-year-old on a charge of murdering an elderly man at an Upper Riccarton address.
The accused is expected to appear in court on Monday morning.
The address in Owens Terrace is cordoned off and is expected to be guarded as a crime scene over the next few days. A second address is also being guarded and treated as a crime scene.
Detective Inspector Tony Hill said the person arrested and the victim were known to each other.
Police were called to the address about 9.30am on Sunday morning when the elderly man was found at the house with unexplained injuries.
They announced the arrest at an afternoon press conference.
