Second man charged over Brighton ram raids

Court House-07A second man has appeared in the Christchurch District Court charged with ram raids on three New Brighton properties, as well as unlawfully taking two vehicles, driving dangerously, and failing to stop for police.

Terrance McDonald, 18, was remanded in custody to appear on the audio visual link from Christchurch Men’s prison on August 13. It is alleged he was in the second car that ram raided Z Energy in Hawke Street Brighton, Challenge Service Station in Bridge Street South Brighton, and Bower Avenue Dairy, and he has been charged with burglary of the three premises on July 29.

He is also charged that on the same day he took two Nissan Terranos, drove dangerously and failed to stop for police on Ruru Road, and drove dangerously and failed to stop for police again.

Hamish Alex McDonald, 21, from the same Phillipstown address, has pleaded guilty to the same burglary charges, and unlawfully taking a car, and will be sentenced on September 23.
