Arson and burglary charges have been laid against a Christchurch man who already faces an allegation of assaulting the householder with an iron bar on the same day.
The 36-year-old man, Turi John Burns, was arrested at the scene of the alleged assault on July 23, outside the victim’s workplace in Belfast.
The victim suffered injuries to his head and legs and was taken to hospital but released later that day.
Now police are alleging that the same victim’s house at Woodend was burgled and set alight shortly before the assault took place.
Burns, a labourer, has entered no pleas to any of the charges at his appearances in the Christchurch District Court.
Judge Brian Callaghan declined bail and remanded Burns in custody to appear again in court on September 7 by video-link from the prison.
