Court House-Sept-2013-07Bail was not sought for a 20-year-old man charged with the armed robbery of the Ilam Mobil Service Station on Tuesday.

Christchurch District Court Judge Jane Farish remanded Nico Wiremu, of Riccarton, in custody for an appearance by video-link from Christchurch Men’s Prison on September 17.

Wiremu is charged with robbing the service station of $250 cash while armed with a firearm.

Police allege he was the man who entered the service station on Creyke Road in Ilam about 1.50pm, brandished a firearm and told the woman attendant to hand over cash.

The robber was given money from the cash register before he fled.

Police said information from the public helped police find the alleged offender and made the arrest. Images from the station’s security camera had been released to the media and on-line.

Wiremu is also charged with possession of the class C controlled drug benzylpiperazine – previously sold as party pills before their banning.

No pleas were entered.
