Custody remand for pharmacy robbery accused

Court House-Sept-2013-05No bail was sought when a 34-year-old man was remanded on a charge of armed robbery of the Waltham Pharmacy.

Jonathan Allen, who is listed as having “no fixed abode, Christchurch Central”, was remanded without plea to November 30, by Judge Stephen O’Driscoll in a brief appearance in the Christchurch District Court today.

He is charged with robbing the pharmacy of cash and controlled medicines about 1.30pm on Thursday, while armed with an imitation sawn-off shotgun.

Duty lawyer David Bunce said Allen would consider a bail application when defence counsel had been assigned.

Allen’s next court appearance will be by video-link from Christchurch Men’s Prison.
