Mother discharged on medical treatment charge

Court House-Sept-2013-05A charge of failing to get medical care for her son who later died in hospital has been discharged for Emma Le Fleming Roberts in the Christchurch District Court.

Roberts, 37, was charged with ill-treatment or neglect of five-year-old Leon Michael Jayet-Cole who was admitted to hospital with serious head injuries on May 27. He died soon after.

She was charged with failing to get medical treatment for the boy.

Judge Jane Farish discharged Roberts after Crown prosecutor Phillippa Curry said they were not pursuing the matter, in the pre-trial callover list.

The autistic boy’s stepfather, 35-year-old James Stedman Roberts has been charged with his murder and is due for trial beginning October 31.
