Court House-doorwayA 51-year-old man has been remanded in custody on a charge of murdering Marcus Luke Tucker whose burnt and beaten body was found dumped near Lake Ellesmere last week.

The man’s name remains suppressed until 11.30am to give his defence counsel Kiran Paima a chance to file papers for a High Court to appeal Judge Stephen O’Driscoll’s refused to allow name suppression.

Judge O’Driscoll said no grounds for suppression had been given and the police opposed the application.

He said: “I am not prepared to make an interim order for suppression without there being proper reasons before the court. There is nothing placed before me that meets the proper threshold.”

He remanded the Bishopdale man without plea for an appearance in the High Court on May 20.

The man is charged with murdering Tucker, 36, whose body was found at Doyleston near Lake Ellesmere on Anzac Day.

The charge alleges the murder took place in Christchurch the previous day.

A 31-year-old Addington woman charged with conspiring to assault Tucker, and with suppressing evidence to enable the man to avoid arrest, knowing that he had committed murder, was still to appear in court.
