Bid to withdraw guilty pleas over armed incident

July 12, 2016 | By More

chch-court-roomA man who admitted armed burglary, kidnapping, and injuring charges in the High Court in June is now applying to withdraw his guilty pleas.

Arrangements have been made for counsel for 31-year-old Albert Enoka, Tony Bamford, to file documents seeking leave to withdraw the pleas and then for the response from the Crown.

Enoka continues to be remanded in custody, and will not have to appear at court for the case’s next call on August 26, which will be by telephone conference. Mr Bamford is based in Nelson.

Enoka had admitted three charges related to an armed incident in February 2015 which ended with a chase through Barrington Mall.

He was due for sentencing in the High Court at Christchurch today, but Justice Gerald Nation announced instead that an application had been received for leave to withdraw the pleas and the sentencing was delayed until that issue was resolved.
