High Court-panoply1The High Court trial of two men charged over the bashing and death of Marcus Tucker, whose beaten and burnt body was found near Lake Ellesmere, has been set for May 15.

Justice Cameron Mander said at a pre-trial sitting today that the trial was confirmed for that date and would take up to three weeks.

Tucker’s body was found near Doyleston on Anzac day.

The Crown alleges he was murdered at Christchurch the previous day by Peter John Carroll, 52, of Bishopdale. Carroll denies the charge.

George Perry Waata, 51, of Opawa, denies a charge of assaulting Tucker with intent to injure on the day of the murder.

Both trials will be held together.

Carroll remains in custody and was not present for today’s hearing. Waata is on bail and was present. He was remanded on continued bail for another call-over in the High Court on December 16, which will set dates in April for pre-trial arguments.
