A 31-year-old man has admitted the burglary of Cortado’s Restaurant in Beckenham, just across the road from the Sydenham Police Station.

Police said Graeme Richard Brand was in Somerfield Street early on the morning of January 24, and used a screwdriver to force entry into the restaurant. He removed the cash drawer from the till, and left the building through the front door.

A member of the public spotted him and alerted the police. A patrol car in the area located him, and the till drawer.

He had already pleaded guilty to theft charges for two petrol drive-offs, and police withdrew charges of possession of tools for burglary and possession of cannabis.

Brand was remanded in custody for sentencing on February 27.

His alleged co-offender, 36-year-old Michelle Joy Tagestad, was remanded without plea to appear in court again on February 16.
