A 17-year-old is being held in custody after his arrest for a Waikuku ram-raid that became a snack attack.

Police say five young offenders were involved, and four of them appeared and were remanded in the Youth Court last Thursday, only hours after the alleged raid on the Z Energy petrol station on the Main North Road.

Police allege the group crashed through the doors in a stolen car at 4.15am but left with only snacks when the building’s fog cannon went off, limiting visibility.

Jordan Lee Duncan, of Mairehau, appeared later before Judge Tony Couch in the Christchurch District Court.

Defence counsel April Kelland said no bail address was available for the 17-year-old and Judge Couch remanded him in custody to Wednesday so that a bail application could be considered.

Duncan faces charges of stealing a car in Christchurch overnight on Wednesday-Thursday, stealing another car in Waikuku, attempting to burgle the Burwood Road Liquor Centre in Christchurch, and burgling the Z Energy station at Waikuku.

He entered no pleas.
