Sainey Marong will go on trial on February 12 for the murder of Christchurch sex worker Renee Larissa Duckmanton, whose body was found at the scene of a scrub fire near Rakaia on May 15 last year.

The date for the start of the three-week trial was set in the High Court at Christchurch today by Justice Gerald Nation, with Marong appearing by video-link from the prison.

Marong, a 33-year-old butcher from Ilam, denies the charge of murdering 22-year-old Duckmanton at Christchurch the day before her body was found amongst a scrub fire on the Main Rakaia Road, north of Rakaia.

Marong’s trial had originally been set for June this year, but was delayed for further inquiries and a High Court pre-trial hearing.
