Red zone arson denied

A man has denied the arson of a car which was found burning in the red zone at Burwood a week ago.

Brayden Clemett, 23, admitted charges of dangerous driving and failing to stop for the police, at a video-link appearance before Judge David Saunders in the Christchurch District Court.

Defence counsel Alister James said Clemett pleaded not guilty to the charge of arson, relating to a Nissan car found burning on Brooker Avenue about 1.25am on November 13. He elected a judge-alone trial.

Judge Saunders remanded him in custody to a case review hearing on December 18.

An alleged co-offender, Tyler Keith Smith, 22, of Northcote, jointly facing the arson charge, has already been remanded on bail without plea to December 5.
