Cell door more daunting than usual

Christchurch District Court’s Saturday session ran late today when the men’s cell door refused to unlock.

A decision was made to deal with the women first, but when court got under way, it was told that their cell also refused to open.

Another set of keys was sent for from the police station, but meanwhile the ladies’ door opened and they were dealt with in the court.

The court was held up for about 40 minutes until the keys arrived, and the men were released, with a rousing cheer from them.
