Abuse trial jury retires overnight

The jury in the two-week trial of a Child, Youth, and Family caregiver and foster parent accused of sexual abuse of girls in his care has retired overnight and will resume its deliberations from 9am tomorrow in the Christchurch District Court.

John Alexander Lindsay, 60, denies sex offending against three girls – now adults – who have given evidence at the trial before Judge Raoul Neave. The crown alleges the abuse took place in Southland and Canterbury from about 1980 to 2003.

The jury retired to consider its verdicts about 12.40pm on the trial’s eighth day and then left the Court House for the day about 5pm.
