Petrol murder case committal delayed
More time has been granted for preparation of the prosecution case against two men charged with murder arising from an alleged burning petrol attack.
The trial committal was due to take place this Friday, after the police had already made an earlier request to have the time extended for the filing of their written evidence.
The committal period for Shay Barry Webster, 21, and Jason Alistor Barr, 43, unemployed, has now been set for October 4 when the case may be sent on to a High Court pre-trial conference.
Both were charged with wounding Terrance Martin Smith with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after the incident on April 25, in which the police said the victim suffered burns to more than 30 percent of his body. Murder charges were laid about three weeks later after Mr Smith died in Middlemore Hospital in Auckland.
