Man admits park indecencies

A 63-year-old man told police he didn’t mean to offend anybody when he occasionally masturbated in Hansen Park, Opawa.

Martin Paul Robson, of Avondale, admitted two charges of wilfully doing indecent acts at Hansen Park, when he appeared in the Christchurch District Court today.

The court was told that on two occasions in July, people walking on the track in the park saw Robson pulling his pants down and masturbating.

When interviewed by police, Robson that he occasionally masturbated in the park, but he said he did not mean to offend anybody.

Judge Brian Callaghan remanded Robson on bail to November 22, and requested a pre-sentence report with a report to assess his suitability for a home detention sentence.

Judge Callaghan told Robson that if there was any suggestion of further offending in this manner he may be remanded in custody.
