Third red zone raider admits charges
The third young man who raided and smashed residential red zone properties in the east of Christchurch pleaded guilty to twelve charges today.
Jordan Riley Harrison, a 19-year-old concrete worker, was remanded to November 27, the same date as the other two men, Andrew Michael Hunton, 21, and Bradley Burlton, 18, who pleaded guilty yesterday.
The three men caused damage worth $426,000, smashing their way through houses and setting a fire in one, and all pleaded guilty to 11 burglaries, one attempted burglary, and one arson.
Defence counsel for Harrison, Mark Callaghan, said Harrison was in full-time employment, and the outcome of his sentencing may be home detention. He said Harrison wanted to attend a restorative justice conference with the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority which owned most of the properties.
In the Christchurch District Court, Judge Jackie Moran remanded Harrison on bail and requested a pre-sentence report, a report to assess his suitability for a home detention sentence, and a reparation report.
She warned Harrison that any breach of his bail could see him remanded in custody.
