Court House-Sept-2013-05Two men charged with the murder of a man allegedly burned in a petrol attack have been sent for trial in the High Court.

The pair have now been committed for trial after more trial was granted for the prosecution to prepare its case.

They are Shay Barry Webster, 21, of Waltham, and Jason Alistor Barr, 43, an unemployed Woolston man, are charged with murdering Terrance Martin Smith in an incident that took place in Christchurch on April 25.

They were charged with wounding Mr Smith with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after the incident in which the police said the victim suffered burns to more than 30 percent of his body. Murder charges were laid about three weeks later after Mr Smith died in Middlemore Hospital in Auckland.

Both men remain in custody ahead of their next appearance, which is a pre-trial callover – which may settle a trial date – in the High Court on November 8.
