Court House-Sept-2013-07Mosgiel man Andrew John Earl has been fined $2500 and disqualified from driving for a year for causing the crash which killed Timaru financier Allan Hubbard and injured his wife Jean.

Earl, 42, had been convicted after a judge-alone trial in the Oamaru District Court before Judge Gary MacAskill who released his reserved decision in Christchurch in August.

He found that Earl had probably fallen asleep at the wheel when his car caused the head-on crash near Oamaru on September 2, 2011.

Earl was remanded on bail for sentencing which took place in Christchurch.
