Dad’s slap brings $500 fine
A man’s slapping of his problem teenage daughter has brought a $500 fine.
Christchurch District Court Judge Brian Callaghan said his actions were understandable but “not really forgiveable”.
The judge noted that CYFs was now involved and the man was having to work his way through a process to stay involved with his children. Those other children range in age from six months to 13 years.
He had had to move out of the family home.
Defence counsel Anya Gartner said the dad had been struggling to deal with his teenage daughter’s behaviour.
There had been a series of thefts, and when she took his eft-pos card he confronted her, lost control, and slapped her.
The man had not been in trouble at court for several years, and was now self-employed and employed six part-time staff at his business.
