Remand on counterfeit note charges
A 30-year-old Sockburn man charged with using counterfeit $20 banknotes was remanded without plea by a registrar at the Christchurch District Court today.
Glenn Stephen Bielawski, a driver, faced six charges. The registrar’s remand meant that he did not need to appear before a judge in court.
He is charged with four offences from August last year: obtaining tyres and wheels by deception, dishonestly using four counterfeit banknotes, and unlawful possession of four forged banknotes.
Two further charges – unlawful possession of a Winchester shotgun and 22 shotgun shells – are dated last week.
The remand was granted for Bielawski to get legal advice.
Police allege counterfeit notes were used at shops in the Riccarton area.
