Injuries delay court appearance
A court appearance for an alleged fugitive has been delayed for a week because he remains incapacitated in hospital.
James Arthur Brown, 47, pictured, was listed for an appearance before Judge Jane Farish in the Christchurch District Court but did not come to the Court House.
It is understood he remains in hospital with two broken ankles after apparently being run down over in a Riccarton carpark. He was arrested at the hospital last week.
He had been on the run after police said he was wanted in connection with domestic violence incidents in mid-February.
He is charged with assaulting a woman, intentionally damaging a tyre, assaulting a man using a knife as a weapon, and threatening to kill the woman.
When the case was called, police sought a further remand because of Brown’s injuries, and Judge Farish remanded him at large – bail was not required in the circumstances – until March 10.
