Court House-07A man accused of stabbing another man in the neck in an incident in Spreydon last month is denying the charge.

John David Evans, a 23-year-old from Hoon Hay, pleaded not guilty to the charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, at an appearance in the Christchurch District Court by video-link from Christchurch Men’s Prison where he is being held in custody.

Evans was arrested after neighbours found Daniel Joseph Patrick Leahy cornered in a driveway in Somerset Crescent by four men on the night of February 19. He was bleeding from a gash in his neck and later had surgery at the Christchurch Hospital.

Defence counsel Peter Doody said Evans was next due in court for a bail application to be heard.

Judge Stephen O’Driscoll remanded Evans in custody to appear again on April 3.
