Third man admits home invasion charge
A third man has admitted taking part in a violent home invasion in Linwood last year. Alois John Seil, 23, pleaded guilty to a charge remaining in the house with intent to commit a crime – a burglary offence.
Seil was with five people who went to a house in Surrey Street last June armed with a screwdriver and an air pistol.
Two men have already been sentenced after the incident. Jack Norris, a 27-year-old labourer was sentenced to home detention for seven months, 200 hours community work, and ordered to pay $70 reparation to the victim.
Corey William Jackson, a 35-year-old painter, was jailed for a year.
Norris threatened to shoot the victim, and slit the throat of the dog at the address. He demanded money and punched one of the house occupants in the face.
Seil entered his plea at a pre-trial session in the Christchurch District Court today. Judge Raoul Neave remanded Seil on electronically monitored bail to May 15 for sentencing, and ordered a pre-sentence report.
