Bail remand for injured defendant
A man with two broken ankles in plaster has been remanded on bail after his court appearances were delayed for three weeks by his stay in hospital.
James Arthur Brown, 47, came to the Christchurch Court House in a wheelchair, with his legs in plaster and straight out in front of him for today’s appearance before District Court Judge Stephen O’Driscoll.
Brown had been sought by police over domestic violence incidents in mid-February, but was found and arrested at the hospital after about two weeks allegedly spent on the run.
He was being treated at hospital for two broken ankles after apparently being run over in a Riccarton carpark.
He was charged with assaulting a woman, intentionally damaging a tyre, assaulting a man using a knife as a weapon, and threatening to kill the woman.
Judge O’Driscoll granted bail for Brown’s remand without plea to April 7.
