Police logo-04A man who used a nail gun as a weapon was jailed for more than two years in the Christchurch District Court today.

Glenn Paul Miche, 36, was sentenced on charges of assault with the nail gun, possession of an offensive weapon, receiving the stolen nail gun, threatening to kill, and assaulting a woman.

Judge Paul Kellar said another person had hired the gas powered nail gun and let Miche use it, and asked him to return it the next day.

Some weeks later, on September 22, Miche took the nail gun loaded with nails and went to his victim’s home.

He fired it two or three times towards the victim’s face, fired it at the house and a car, and continued firing the gun at the victim while threatening to kill him.

The man was struck in the forearm, but did not suffer serious injury.

Earlier in July, Miche hit a woman victim three times, knocking her to the ground. He stood over her while punching her in the head and face.

Judge Kellar said the nail gun incident had potentially fatal and lethal consequences, and when he committed this offence he was on bail for the assault on the woman.

Miche had 69 previous offences, 13 of which were for violent offending, he said.

His pre-sentence report said both incidents happened after Miche had been drinking heavily. He had a serious drinking problem, and was at a high risk of re-offending and harming others.

Judge Kellar sentenced Miche to prison for two years seven months.
