Court House-07Two men charged with the armed robbery of an R18 store in Linwood in the hour before synthetic highs became illegal are denying the charge and heading for jury trial.

They were remanded to a case review hearing after appearances by video-link from the Men’s Prison, before Judge John Macdonald in the Christchurch District Court today.

The date for that hearing is July 28, but in the meantime both men will appear in court to make applications for their release on electronically monitored bail.

Isaiah Herbert, an 18-year-old gib stopper from Phillipstown, and Marcus Raphael Hatcher, 30, from Avonhead, are jointly charged with robbing the store of cash and synthetic cannabis while armed with an offensive weapon – a knife.

Police allege the robbery of the store in Stanmore Road took place at 11.40pm on May 7, after Parliament had passed legislation which imposed a ban on legal highs from midnight.
