Guilty pleas over domestic stabbing incident
A woman has indicated guilty pleas over an Edgeware stabbing incident which caused injuries to a man and the child he was holding at the time.
Leah Stacey Chandler, 24, has been remanded for sentencing on August 13, after indicating guilty pleas to charges of wounding the man with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and injuring the child with reckless disregard for his safety.
The child was aged 14 months when the incident happened at a Barbadoes Street property in June 2013.
Police said at the time that the woman and the man were involved in a domestic-related argument when the woman used a hunting knife to stab the man in the back. The boy he was holding received minor cuts.
The man was not seriously injured and was able to carry the boy to a nearby address where he called emergency services.
Both the victims were treated at the hospital and discharged on the night of the incident.
Chandler was granted bail after her arrest, but has been living outside Christchurch.
She remains on bail for her sentencing by Christchurch District Court Judge Jane Farish next month.
The case had been set for trial, but that has been stopped by the guilty pleas.
