Suspicious package presented at police station
Part of the Christchurch Central Police station was shut down for a time today after someone came to the public counter with a suspicious package.
The package was examined in an interview room at about 11am, and the Bomb Disposal Unit was brought in to assess the situation. The squad confirmed that the package was not a bomb.
As a precaution, part of St Asaph Street was cordoned off to traffic and several neighbouring businesses were evacuated, the police said. The station was back open for business as usual by 2pm.
