Ten-week jail term for repeated trespasser
A 59-year-old recidivist trespasser was sentenced to ten weeks prison in the Christchurch District Court today on a charge of wilful trespass.
Margaret Mabel Dodds, who lives in the Seager Clinic at Princess Margaret Hospital, was trespassed from Barrington Mall and broke that order on October 1.
At the time she was under prison release conditions for similar offending.
Defence counsel Paul Johnson said Dodds had been trespassed off most places in Christchurch including malls, shops, parks, and buses. He said society had seemed to turn its back on her.
Judge Brian Callaghan said Dodds had eight previous trespass charges and the offending was of a recidivist nature.
He sentenced her to ten weeks prison, and said the prison release conditions would continue until June next year.
