Man tried to block police search
A man with gang connections tried to block the police making a bail check from entering his address by blocking the doorway, before he was found in possession of methamphetamine.
Topi Emery, 30, admitted charges of possession of the class A drug, and obstructing the police, just before his scheduled trial was due to begin in the Christchurch District Court today.
Judge Michael Crosbie remanded him in custody to November 21, when he is already due to be sentenced on a charge of committing an armed burglary.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Mark Berryman said police went to Emery’s Linwood address about 10pm on July 31. Emery became agitated when a constable decided to conduct a search.
Emery blocked the doorway with his body, and was warned but he continued to obstruct the officer. He refused police access and wedged his legs against the back of the door.
When police got inside they found several point bags containing methamphetamine, and several empty bags.
Defence counsel Nick Rout told the court Emery was already in custody awaiting sentence and a probation report had already been ordered by the court.
