Son of ‘Black Widow’ claims he is a marked man
The son of “Black Widow” Helen Milner, Adam Francis Murray Kearns, says he has been told his mother has a “hit” out on him.
He made his allegation at the Christchurch District Court today when he was remanded in custody on charges relating to drugs, violence, and unlawful possession of a shotgun.
He made the allegation as he represented himself in the dock, to make a bail application.
“The reason for having a shotgun is that the police approached me to say I have got a hit out on my head from my mother, who is in prison,” he said. “I would like the media to be aware of this.”
The police prosecutor Sergeant Iain Patton told the court the allegation was unfounded. “We have no information about that.”
Kearns then repeated: “My old lady’s paid for a hit to be put on me.”
Kearns, 23, was arrested in a police operation at New Brighton yesterday, and appeared before Justices of the Peace at today’s sitting of the Christchurch District Court.
Kearns was awarded $55,000 in damages two weeks ago after suing Milner for framing him for a crime he never committed which led to him being held in custody for more than a fortnight.
Milner later admitted she had sent false text messages in his name, which were abusive and threatening and would have breached protection orders. That led to his arrest.
Milner is now serving a life term after being found guilty of murdering her husband, Philip James Nisbet, 47, in 2009.
Kearns today applied for release on bail on 11 charges but Justices of the Peace Nick Atkins and Sheryl Sutherland decided bail would not be granted, after reading the police’s opposition.
He was remanded without plea to appear on Thursday by video-link from the prison.
Kearns is charged that he possessed cannabis for the purpose of sale, three charges of selling cannabis, possession of a pipe for smoking methamphetamine, and possession of a bong for smoking drugs.
He is also charged with unlawfully having a restricted weapon, a taser, and a shotgun. He is also charged with failing to surrender a shotgun to the police at a time when there was a protection order in force against him.
He faces two charges of assaulting the same man on dates in October and November.
