$38,000 intentional damage alleged
An 18-year-old who police allege caused $38,000 worth of damage to glass balustrade panels and windows in New Brighton was given a registrar’s remand in the Christchurch District Court today.
Shem Mikiya-Hoani Brokenshire, a waiter from Addington, was charged with intentionally destroying or damaging 21 panes of balustrade glass panels, and two large windows, the property of the Christchurch City Council, in September.
The glass panels were on a pedestrian ramp on the New Brighton pier, and the two large windows were in the New Brighton Public Library.
Brokenshire was remanded on bail to appear in court again on December 22 to enable him to apply for legal aid.
A 14-year-old alleged co-offender has been referred to Youth Aid.
