Bail granted to ram-raid accused
Police did not oppose bail for a 24-year-old man charged with burglaries – one of them described as a ram-raid – at Hororata and West Melton, who appeared in the Christchurch District Court today.
Willem Martin Kerris, a painter, from Rolleston, was remanded without plea to December 23, at the request of defence counsel Richard McGuire.
Judge Jane Farish imposed bail conditions for Kerris to live at a specified address, abide by a night-time curfew, not consume alcohol nor enter licensed premises, not drive, and not enter Hororata and West Melton.
He is charged with sustained loss of traction, burglary of the West Melton Tavern, a ram-raid break-in at Hororata Motors, unlawfully taking a car, driving contrary to the terms of an alcohol inter-lock licence, and driving with excess breath-alcohol with a level of 844mcg of alcohol to a litre of breath. The legal limit is 400mcg.
