Internet breach alleged
Probation has charged a man arrested two weeks ago after a four-day manhunt with accessing the Internet in breach of an extended supervision order.
The new charge came before the Christchurch District Court at an appearance by video-link from Christchurch Men’s Prison where Christopher David Roche has been held on remand since his arrest on December 1.
Probation alleges that Roche, who is also known as Kristian Glanville, has accessed the Internet without the prior approval required under the terms of his extended supervision order.
Judge Noel Walsh remanded the 35-year-old without plea on that charge but Roche has now pleaded guilty to a list of charges and faces sentencing on February 25.
A pre-sentence report has already been prepared. A probation officer told Judge Walsh that two addresses had been checked and rejected for possible home or community detention sentences, and the recommendation was now imprisonment.
Walsh was already facing sentence on two charges before he was subject of the manhunt which ended when Armed Offenders Squad members surrounded a home in Lyttelton.
He had admitted a firearms charge and receiving a stolen Ducati motorcycle.
Today he also admitted charges of reckless driving, failing to stop for a police patrol car using its lights and siren, and driving while forbidden.
He also faces a charge of breaching the extended supervision order and failing to answer District Court bail.
Defence counsel Kirsty May said there was no application for bail, and Judge Walsh remanded Roche in custody for sentence.
