Man denies attempted kidnap
A 38-year-old Mairehau man is denying a charge of attempting to kidnap a woman in New Brighton last week and is taking the case to a trial.
Mitchum Peyroux Ashwell entered his not guilty plea before a registrar at the Christchurch District Court today.
He had been released on police bail after his arrest on December 18 over an incident that police allege took place in Marine Parade about 8.30am that day.
The registrar granted a remand on bail to a case review hearing on March 16, which is the next step in the trial process.
Ashwell is charged with attempting to unlawfully detain a woman.
