Remand on cricket invasion charge
A man charged with invading the pitch at the Cricket World Cup match at Hagley Oval on Saturday has been granted a registrar’s remand to Friday.
Police had released Ephraim James McIntyre, 26, on bail to appear in the Christchurch District Court today but he has been remanded without appearing before a judge to Friday morning’s session.
Police have charged him with pitch invasion under the Major Events Management Act. It is alleged he streaked onto the playing area near the end of the match between the Black Caps and Sri Lanka before being tackled and dragged from the cricket ground.
No plea has been entered.
