Domestic drug courier offences admitted
A 34-year-old man has pleaded guilty to six drugs charges relating to a domestic drug courier operation.
Tamal Edward McMeekan pleaded guilty to seven charges involving two sets of offending, one in a Christchurch motel, and the other after arrests at Christchurch Airport.
Tamal Edward McMeekan pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine for supply, possession of three pipes for methamphetamine, and offering to supply methamphetamine, all dating from February to March 2014.
While on bail for those charges between July and August 2014 he supplied methamphetamine, possessed methamphetamine for supply, possessed cannabis, and unlawfully possessed a pistol.
In March 2014 he was arrested with co-offenders at a motel in Blenheim Road, Christchurch.
He was granted bail and the police summary of facts states that while on bail between July and August 2014 McMeekan arranged for other people to travel to Auckland on domestic flights to uplift methamphetamine and bring it to his address.
Police stopped two people at the Christchurch Airport after one of the trips, and found the drug on a woman.
When they searched McMeekan’s house they found a loaded, cut down, pump action pistol-grip shotgun in a caravan at the rear of the address, and dried cannabis head in the house.
McMeekan told police he was dealing in methamphetamine to settle a drug debt.
In the Christchurch District Court Judge David Saunders remanded McMeekan in custody to a Crown sentencing session on April 2, and requested a pre-sentence report.
