Employee faces $139,000 theft charge
An Avondale man was granted bail on a charge of stealing $139,266 from his employer over more than a year.
Police did not oppose Lindsay Ian Cresswell’s release at the Christchurch District Court today after his arrest on a charge of theft by failing to account.
Cresswell, a 26-year-old concrete worker employed by a construction company, is alleged to have stolen the money between September 2013 and October 2014, by issuing company invoices with a personal bank account number for payments to be made to.
Police allege he obtained the money from 16 customers.
Cresswell was granted a registrar’s remand without needing to appear in court. He was remanded to obtain legal advice and is next due to appear at court on March 27.
