Former EQC staffer faces fresh charges
A woman who “duped” EQC staff when she misused the Commission’s cars, phone, and fuel cards in 2014 has pleaded guilty to new charges of dishonestly obtaining possession of $5000 cash, and stealing a laptop computer.
Epenesa Valavala, 24, admitted the charges dated September and October 2014, in the Christchurch District Court Thursday.
At her sentencing on the EQC charges in December, Judge Jane Farish said the staff at EQC felt responsible, and that they were manipulated and duped by Valavala. She was sentenced to 140 hours community work, and ordered to pay reparation of $1034 to the EQC.
Judge Charles Blackie remanded Valavala to June 26 for sentencing on the new charges, and ordered a pre-sentence report and a referral to a restorative justice meeting.
