Man charged with quake-house arsons
A 43-year-old man charged with the arson of three earthquake abandoned houses, and one van, was remanded on bail in the Christchurch District Court.
Errol Carl Tait, of Linwood, was charged with arson of a house in Acland Avenue on December 5, owned by Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority.
Two houses in Frankleigh Street, owned by Synergy Contract Services, were allegedly set alight in January, and at one property a light van owned by them was also burnt.
It is also alleged that in February Tait burgled a property on Shaw Avenue.
Police opposed bail, but Judge Noel Walsh granted it, and remanded Tait to appear in court again on April 1, with a curfew of 9pm to 7am.
